You are a victim, surviving relative or partner or witness

As a victim of a violent crime you may apply to the Fund for one-off compensation. This is meant to go towards medical costs, for example, or any loss of income or psychological suffering on your part as a result of the crime.

Other persons affected by a crime may also apply for compensation. If a victim dies as a result of a crime, direct survivors (spouse or cohabiting partner and children) may also apply for compensation. In such cases, however, compensation is only awarded for certain types of damage, eg burial and cremation costs or loss of family income.

If you have been the witness of a crime in which a relative or partner was seriously injured or killed, then under certain conditions you may also qualify for one-off compensation. In some instances, being party to the consequences of a crime is regarded as serious injury (and is sometimes referred to as emotional shock damage).
