You may only apply for compensation for a violent crime committed on or after January 1 1973, or that was committed partially before and partially after this date.
Your application must be submitted within three years after the date of the violent crime. However, there may be reasons or circumstances preventing you from submitting your application within this period of time. For example, you may not be aware of the existence of the Fund, or you initially tried to recover damages from the offender. In such cases your application will then be dealt with anyway.
