General
The one-off compensation that the Fund awards if you have been the victim of a serious violent crime is for the damage you suffer as a result of your injury.
If you are entitled to compensation it usually consists of two parts. As a victim you receive compensation anyway for immaterial damage (non-economic damage) (surviving relatives and partners do not qualify for this). You also receive compensation for any material damage suffered (ie actual costs, such as medical bills).
If you receive other compensation for the damage you suffer, eg from the offender or insurance, you will not receive payment from the Fund. Compensation awarded by the Fund is a supplementary provision and is intended as a safety net.
